Immigration (Should asylum seekers or people seeking a better life be turned away?): The benefits of allowing asylum seekers to stay in the country they venture too is that the basic right to live is protected when the host country accepts them. Also, the faster they are integrated into the new society, the faster they are able to join the workforce, provide for their families, and contribute to society. Researching and arguing this topic will be easy because it is such a pressing and current issue not just in America but around the world that so many people are passionate about, so there will be many articles to draw evidence from and form a very compelling argument. This topic is better than all other topics because it will allow me to gain a deeper knowledge of why people try to obtain a better life, and since it is so current, this topic can hopefully lead to change for immigrants in the near future.
Travel (How do we make travel safer for everyone?): The benefits of making travel safer for everyone is that more people would be able to visit loved ones or make new memories visiting new places without having to worry about anything except having a good time. This topic will be easy to research and argue because travel is a huge industry and so many people rely on the different aspects of it that there are a plethora of articles based on personal experiences that would allow me to formulate an effective and reliable argument. This topic is better than other topics because allowing everyone to travel safely means that more people get to gain new experiences that may have had reservations about traveling before, and I can personally relate to this topic because I travel regularly with my family around the world, gaining many new memories that will last a lifetime.

1. The main claim that Langston makes is that anyone can persuade somebody, but they have to use the right language to do so.
2. I believe that Langston chose this claim because she was trying to demonstrate to her listeners how to use the different rhetorical techniques effectively instead of poorly using the techniques, ultimately failing to persuade another. 3. The tone of this video is very informative and animated to make the video more interesting and get the audience more engaged. 4. The intended audience of the video is young authors who are trying to create a persuasive and effective argument. 5. Langston arranges her ideas using an umbrella type idea. This is because she starts off with her big overall topic, and then breaks it down into the three subtopics that fit underneath the big umbrella idea. 6. Langston establishes her credibility by using historical facts and quoting directly from speeches made by some of history's greatest orators like Aristotle, Martin Luther King Jr, and Cicero. 7. The emotion that Langston is trying to evoke is inspiration. She is trying to make young writers feel the spark of inspiration to be more purposeful in their writing and persuade others more effectively. 8. Langston arranges her logical argument by presenting her audience with the facts and then taking the time to explain each one by using real world examples to make sure all her bases are covered, and her audience won't have questions when they finish viewing the clip. 9. In the video I noticed that Langston used Logos to speak to her listeners directly about what is going on, and then she backed that up with ethos by using real life examples like MLK to make her argument more valid. 10. I can use rhetoric when talking to people of higher authority to get them to think like me and work with me to accomplish a goal that helps everyone. This is because when you walk in someone else's shoes for a day, you are bound to make a better and more thought out decision. |
